What role can city council play in economic development ? As the City of Xenia faces a deficit in 2010, what can be done to make the city more attractive to businesses, both large and small?

Council should develop and/or maintain projects and programs to sustain and enhance our current small businesses. An attractive, active community will attract new business. No one, be it homeowner or business wants to locate in a community with boarded up store fronts. Programs should be developed to encourage resident involvement. Community service helps to instill a sense of pride and ownership.

My efforts are to restore and maintain services to the community and to slow unneeded spending. All my votes will place children and seniors as my first priority followed closely with job creation. As your representative, my goal will be to create a more business friendly environment. My hand of HOSPITALITY will be extended to all job creators; current and future. Practice good government and our namesake, Xenia means Hospitality then economic development will prosper.

Council has the ability to be proactive with citizens, business, and industry as a policy making body. Xenia's infrastructure includes major highway access, low taxes, water and sewer rates, exceptional safety services and special incentives. Xenia offers affordable housing, an available workforce, and "Excellent" rated schools. Xenia utilizes an Economic Development Committee, and promotes business, large and small, to locate here. With development, our tax base increases and improves cash flow for the 2010 budget.

We must continue to focus on the small businesses until a sound base has been met. We must get the local newspapers to team up with the city to promote these small organizations. Once this has been accomplished larger businesses will be attracted to the community.

To ensure economical prosperity, local government officials must capitalize and jump start growth through housing, business, retail and manufacturing sector. Attractive, clean, safe communities represent viable revenue generators, jobs and opportunities for Xenia and its citizens. I will work hard bringing new ideas to keep businesses, jobs and income flowing toward and stay in the City of Xenia, which must market itself a friendly, prosperous community, county seat, and progressive city.
