| If the recession continues, what impact will that have on Washington Township’s budget and what proactive measures should the council be making to assure that essential services continue for township residents? | ||
The practices of yesterday will not meet the challenges of tomorrow. As an experienced and trusted business owner with 60 employees, I know that we can serve our independent Township and City in new and better ways by challenging the assumptions of the past and reinvigorating the way we govern. It is our duty to the citizens to evaluate expenditures and ensure that value, security & long-term sustainability is brought to the community.

With the short fall of revenue coming from State of Ohio and Montgomery County, we need to review services we now furnish, see how money can be saved. Labor seems to be our highest expense. If a person retires or leaves, we may ask others to pickup additional duties. My hope is, we can cut taxes, operate with less government, and continue to furnish top quality services.

Washington Township is able to be proactive in its financial planning because we budget five years in advance. Our revenues come from three primary sources: 1. Property taxes voted by residents for specific services, 2. Taxes levied by the state on gasoline, liquor, etc. 3. A share of the Ohio Local Government Tax. Each year we analyze these revenues to forecast potential financial gaps in order to guarantee that essential services are provided.
