How are the regional economic woes affecting Miami Township and what proactive position should the trustees be making to secure the township budget for the future?

Industry cuts/closings has resulted in loss of homes and jobs, which impact local business, slows development, and ultimately reduces revenue to the township. Cooperation with colleagues and comprehending the budget process is necessary to be an effective leader. The township needs to be ready to make tough fiscally conservative decisions for the betterment of our community. Miami Township must attract small businesses by providing tax abatement incentives for new businesses and new developments.

Miami Township, although successful on its own, relies on the economics of the entire Dayton area to sustain itself. I believe that the most important function of a Trustee is to collaborate with the county/state economic development programs to bring new, job producing business to the area. The Austin Road project is perfect to grow the Township. However, if the leaders fail to consider all business opportunities that might facilitate this growth potential, they are failing the community and the greater Dayton Area. We need to do all we can to bring jobs to the area that will increase business revenues for large and small companies.

How are the regional economic woes affecting Miami Township and what proactive position should the trustees be making to secure the township budget for the future?

My proactive planning and business approach 4 years ago has Miami Township fiscally strong. Since then, Miami Township has attracted over 20 million dollars of development and brought over 700 jobs to our township. We created 2 Joint Economic Development Districts which brings new business’ to our community; a Community Improvement Corporation to partner with the private sector for development, and partnered with surrounding jurisdictions, where appropriate to save money and provide better service.
