| The City of Moraine has suffered some hard economic hits with the loss of major employers, such as the GM Assembly Plant, among others. How has this loss of income for the city impacted the provision of essential services to Moraine residents and what should the council be doing to assure new sources of income for the city? | ||
The City has found areas to trim the budget so as not to cut essential services to our residents. For example: canceling the Heritage Festival and using those savings to celebrate the 4th of July holiday. I am confident that we will continue to come up creative ways to trim and tighten the budget. We as council members will work hand in hand the city manager to make Moraine attractive to potential new businesses.

Moraine is fortunate to have extremely pro-active, hard-working, forward thinking employees like City Manager Dave Hicks. Cost saving programs our staff has initiated has saved jobs and kept moral high. Council needs to put any differences aside and assure our staff that council is here to help them succeed. Moraine is far from dead, as many outsiders think we are.

Through judicious budgeting and creative cost control over the last several years, the City of Moraine has been able to maintain the provision of essential services to our residents. To continue this, we will look to enhance revenue stream with strategic economic development, seek grants for special projects and collaborate with the department heads to cut expenses. Only if it is imperative to the City’s financial future will we look to reduce city services.
