If the recession continues, what impact will that have on Middletown’s budget and what proactive measures should the council be making to assure that essential services continue for Middletown residents?

City Council is implementing several budgetary modifications. Due to a 1.3 million dollar projected revenue shortfall in 2010, a decrease in city personnel is imminent. Personnel will be requested to increase their percent of health care premiums, to seek efficiencies in vehicle and equipment operations, and to stream-line targeted expenditures. It is imperative that the high level of public safety is upheld by protecting essential service positions and enhanced by securing grants for additional training.

If the recession continues, what impact will that have on Middletown’s budget and what proactive measures should the council be making to assure that essential services continue for Middletown residents?

The recession, although does show a slight turn around in the stock market, still has a detrimental impact on Middletown's budget such as reduced financing for all departments. To rectify this in short term all nonessential departments, extra personel and operating hours for nonemergency departments should be reduced and pay freezes in the immediate answer until new jobs are created to support the budget in its current form.
