If the recession continues, what impact will that have on Hamilton’s budget and what proactive measures should the council be making to assure that essential services continue for Hamilton residents?

It would have a great impact on the General Fund. We must prioritize what services are essential. I believe that the quality of life is essential, the Arts and Parks must be preserved. The Health Dept. must be maintained as it relates to abandoned housing and unattended properties. Our Safety services (Police and Fire) must remain intact as well. The key will be what services can be reduced and the willingness to act.

If the recession continues, what impact will that have on Hamilton’s budget and what proactive measures should the council be making to assure that essential services continue for Hamilton residents?

A continuing recession will challenge Hamilton in stretching dollars to conserve services our citizens deserve. Council needs to prioritize the use of public dollars for basic services. We need to recruit new jobs and businesses and retain current jobs and businesses to help our tax base. We need to keep effective levels for police, fire, and health personnel. We need to maintian our parks. I promise sensible action in difficult times.
