Residents came to the rescue of a raccoon that had got its head stuck in a peanut butter jar on Wednesday, Feb. 18. A Clark County sheriff’s deputy and a crowd of residents had already gathered by about 5:45 p.m. when personnel with the Bethel Township Fire arrived on the scene at 17 Elm St. The deputy had called the department because he was concerned that a man trying to get the raccoon out of a tree might injure himself. The man used a saw to cut down the tree limb the raccoon was on, and another man caught the animal. Two employees with Varmint Guard helped remove the jar, and then caged the animal and transported it elsewhere for release.
