Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was lit during the 76th annual lighting ceremony Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, in New York. The 80-year-old Norway spruce, which stands 72 feet tall, is decorated with 30,000 LED lights and topped with a Swarovski crystal star.T he tree will stay lit through January 9, 2009.

Dog rescued from pipe

Workers from the Dreier and Maller company, pulls "Zeke" the dog from a 15-inch drain pipe buried 5-feet under a farm field in Champaign County Wednesday. "Zeke" had been stuck in the pipe since Thanksgiving.

Science experiments at WSU

Students from Springboro Junior High School learn about materials engineering at Wright State University's materials processing lab on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Area middle school students participated in Exploring Science!, which included many hands-on programs to familiarize students to various facets of biology, chemistry, geology and physics. The university's College of Science and Mathematics hosted more than 1,300 students at the event.

Students buy goods for annual Christmas party

National Honor Society students from West Carrollton High School spent part of Wednesday, Dec. 3, purchasing gifts to distribute at a West Carrollton community Christmas party to be held on Dec. 13. The students picked out gifts for up to 300 children at the Springboro Pike Meijer, which provided $2,000 toward purchase of the gifts. Groups from the school have been sponsoring the party annually for more than a decade.
