Wright-Patterson Air Force Base converted the former Communications Boulevard into Kuglics Boulevard during a formal ceremony Friday, Oct. 23, 2009. The street was renamed to honor Air Force special agent Matthew J. Kuglics, killed in action June 5, 2007.

Hundreds of children lined up for the annual costume parade sponsored by the Lion's Club. West Carrollton Parks and Recreation organizers estimate that about 750 people attended the Monster Mash on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, in front of the Civic Center. In addition to the costume parade, the event included carnival games such as the cake walk, as well as hayrides, snacks and free pumpkins to the first 100 participants.

A one car accident at the intersection of Shroyer Rd and Lincoln Park Blvd, in Kettering across from Fairmont High School, sent the driver, Mary Newton, 55, of Dayton, and the passenger, Newton's 81-year-old mother, Doris Gast, also of Dayton, to the hospital in critical condition. The women had to be cut out of and extracted from the car after hitting a pole.
